The Corpus Christi video premiere of Quiksilver’s “Just Add Water” was a hit. I arrived around 7:30pm to a quickly growing crowd. There was a line of surfers winding into the Executive Surf Club waiting to partake of the festivities and free beer. I was on “the list” and didn’t have to pay. I have to admit, it’s kind of cool to tell the door guy “I’m on the list.” Thanks guys.
Speaking of Dallas he was pimping his hot new Texas Surf Calendar on the patio with the Surfrider Foundation gang looking on. He seemed to be doing well, as the table was looking empty and the cash box full. The calendars are first class, I grabbed a few over the weekend and the quality is excellent. Make sure to pick up a few for Christmas, they make for great stocking stuffers.Â
Â
By this time a nice sized crowd filled the Surf Club patio and the fellahs that put together the calendar launched their slideshow. The photographs were a mix of surfing and lifestyle shots, choreographed to some music. The crowd responded well and the music selections were great.Â
After the slideshow, the Texas Quiksilver rep took the stage and handed out some “Quik” goodies. Unfortunately my ticket was about as lucky as the McCain/Palin ticket and I went home empty handed. Maybe next year?
The slideshow was followed by the latest Quiksilver video “Just Add Water.” The video follows team rider Clay Marzo. Clay’s surfing is not only jaw dropping unreal but also wildly creative. The kid has talent. The movie also explores Marzo’s challenges of living with Asperger’s, a form of high-functioning Autism. Hit your local surf shop and purchase a copy and tuck it away for Christmas.Â
All-in-all, the premiere was a hit. The slideshow featured some hot photos, the crowd was kicking, and the video was fantastic.Â
