This web site provides a venue to document my hobbies: surfing, writing, photography, and technology.Â
I scour surfing and surf industry web sites looking for news, product information, videos and photographs to share with my readers. Hopefully you will return to read my ramblings, check up on the latest surf news, read a product review or two, and to check the web cam and surf report.  I hope the site provides a break from the day’s monotony and gets people amped up about surfing. Â
What surprises me is how many emails I receive from people that do not live near the coast. They always express how much they enjoy watching the sun rise from the water… how it helps them “get through the day” and how ”therapeutic” watching the ocean can be. It made me realize how lucky I am to live next to the water. How lucky I am to glide across that sea of energy, how lucky I am to be a part of the “stoke.”
For those who need that daily dose of a North Padre sunset…enjoy. For those who are just “checking the surfâ€â€¦catch a wave or two for the land sharks.Â
I have been surfing since I was a teenager. However, I took a 10 year break from surfing which I’ll blame on”grown-up” life. First I completed my undergrad degree, got married to an incredible women, finished off my graduate degree, and polished that off with two wonderful kids. A neighbor friend of mine bought a surfboard and asked if I wanted to paddle out with him. I dusted off my board and gave it a shot and basically had a miserable time. I had gained about 30 pounds since the last time I paddled out and the board to body ratio was not leaning in my favor.Â
My neighbor talked me into trying his longboard, I caught waves, and the magic was back.  Fast forward a few years and I have lost 25 pounds, surf on a weekly basis, and now ride a superfish as well as my longboard. The moral of the story is make time for surfing, even during that “grown-up” transition.
By day I am a technology consultant. My job description states that I am a web design specialist…among other duties. I am not sure if “specialist” is the correct term. The web is changing so quick that I feel more like a professional student – always learning new methods, new technologies, new code, and new medias.  Â
If I am not designing web sites I am training. Application training is my favorite part of the job. I like to meet new people and love to teach. I particularly enjoy teaching Adobe products (Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Illustrator, Flash, Premiere…etc). If you need a website, some training, or just want to comment on the site – feel free to contact me. coastalsurfing@gmail.com
Enjoy life!
